I had a really scary experience while driving home from Des Moines yesterday!! I was trying to get myself some more water and spilled it, and while I was trying to get stuff out of the water puddle (ei-eyes not on the road!) I went off the road a little in the gravel. Then when I was trying to get back on the road my car spun around in a circle before sliding backwards into the ditch and stalling out.
I was able to start my car right back up and drive it up to the edge of the ditch, where 2 other cars (one from each side of the freeway!) had stopped right away to see if I was ok. They had me get out and walk a little, take a break, make sure I was ok. I was noticing very quickly just HOW lucky I was - I didn't hit any of the little poles and metal reflector poles on the side of the road, just missed one. There wasn't anyone coming except the one car that stopped, and since I was on the freeway, there wasn't any on-coming traffic, and I slid into the right ditch anyway, so I didn't even get close to them. Also it was a nice shallow ditch, as opposed to a few miles down the road where they were steeper and turning into hills and stuff that would have made it easier to roll around, etc. I didn't bump my head or anything, it was kind of a dreamy/amusement park-y spin/slide to a stop, but it scared me to pieces! Not to mention I was REALLY embarrassed at being sooooo stupid! woof. and I had to keep on truckin', because I had an audition at 1:30. Sigh. Just a big wake-up call. Thank you angels watching over me!!!
The state fair was fun though. The first time I'd been EVER! How funny! Especially since I've lived here for 20 years! AND I used to be in 4-H, and I had special projects go on to state, I just never went up to see them.... oh well.
Auditions were weird. I felt so old and clumsy compared to the high schoolers. Not to mention Collin was there, which was also a little bizarre. I realized he was scared out of his boots to sing, and it really struck me, because usually he seems to strut around all confident, and/or non-caring. Rodney had him NOT sing, but be a character, and then Collin was really able to pull it off well! Amazing. He has a good voice. It would be really fun if he was Dauntless in Once Upon a Mattress. :D We'll see what happens. Part of me doesn't really want to sell my soul like that for a few months, especially for a chorus part, but argh... We'll see what he comes up with.
I better get going with work stuff. Trying to tie up loose ends everywhere so I'll have less to deal with when I start full time... I also need to ask them a few questions about stuff... sigh.
