We're back home from Des Moines and Gilberto is now a permanent
resident of the U.S.!
Everything went really smoothly, our interviewer's name was Dan, and he
was very nice and professional. He asked us a few questions and for
some papers, and said that he was approving the application and Gilberto
should recieve his Greencard in the mail in 7-10 business days. Once
we got in the door, the interview was probably no more that 15 or 20
minutes!
The approval IS conditional, because we haven't been married for very
long - it just means that in two years Gilberto's card will expire, and
we'll have to send in another application, and if they decide they want
us to, go back with additional evidence of our marriage. But now that
we know how it goes, should be no problem!
After the interview we walked around downtown FOREVER looking for coffee, and finally found some up in the skywalk after asking this tourism lady. Oh well, we got some exercise!
After our coffee break, we met up with some old friends from college and had lunch in a nice Chinese/Viatnamese restaurant and talked about old times. I hadn't seen John or even been in contact with him in years and years, but there is something about that first year MUM bond that is pretty special, in my opinion. Sara looks about ready to burst, they are expecting a little girl in June!
