- Work has been kind of nuts. Referring back to that entry where I said I hated change, I think I can mention it now since every one I was talking about is gone. About 4 people quit in the space of a month for various reasons - going back to school, getting hired for their dream job, moving away to live with her boyfriend and getting a job that pays more.
It looks like as a result of the most recent guy quitting I'm going to be making a big shift in responsibilities to project management, and hopefully a raise follows. We'll see what happens, has to all get approved by the upper dudes. I have a feeling I'll get something more, maybe less than that position typically or traditionally deserves, but enough to make a happy little difference in my life. Wish me luck!
- I'm planning to have a table at the September "Buy Fresh, Buy Local" Artwalk. Hoping to make some cash at that, need to build up my inventory a bit more. Potential for a LOT more people to come buy than during the Farmer's Market, which I've also been doing a bit with my brother this last month. I don't make much, but it's fun to be outside and hang with him a bit, and I think he likes it too.
- Still doing my poetry workshop, it's a bit of a pinch since it's from 1-3pm on Wednesdays, but I eat lunch at my desk and then they do my poem first, or some weeks I don't bring one so I actually have a chance to hear the others. It's always surprising to find out things like "oh wow, my poem has subtext!" or "oh wow, I almost didn't come this week because I thought this was crap, and it turns out they like it the best!"
- I'm ALSO taking on a Photoshop class and a guitar class from Indian Hills community college! The Photoshop one is online on my own time (just have to get all the assignments done by the end of the semester), and my friend Laura is doing it too, so we'll have each other to work with. The guitar one is in Ottumwa, which is a tiny bummer with the driving, BUT it's cheap, and since I'll be doing that driving, and I have Spanish audio lessons, I can do my Spanish on the drive up and back, so Thursdays will be my "school nights" and I can finally study what I've been complaining about for what, 6 years? Spanish and music! whoo!
The only problem is I've just found out that I got the wrong textbook, AND Indian Hills doesn't support Macs, so I'd be taking the course "at my own risk" if I do it on my computer with Firefox. Argh. How dumb is that? I'm sure I can use the computers at work or at the school, but bummer! and the wrong textbook, hrm. I wonder how hard it is to sell it on Amazon again... d'oh.
In any case, I somehow am taking on a lot more in ALL areas of my life, yet it feels really good. We'll see how it feels when some of the stuff actually gets underway.
