Feeling kinda down/overwhelmed today. G is done with the trade show and is now off to Colombia till the 17th. It's such a difference knowing he's not in the next room or downstairs or something.
Feels like I've been utterly flaking out the past week. It's not entirely true, but it's definitely partially true. So hard for me when there's nothing set to actually get anything done.
Went to see Twilight in Ottumwa today with friends. Had the yummy veggie burger at Roe's and told them to hold the second burger. I ordered it before and it came with TWO burgers on one bun and that is just toooo much food, but at the time I was horrifically nervous so I ate the entire thing and felt way too full for way too long afterward. I'm still kinda full from just the one, so I'm really glad I didn't get two!
Twilight was pretty good, not as good as the book, and they compressed/changed several of the scenes/events from the book, which is to be expected for a movie I guess, but I think they still did a pretty good job of hitting on the main bits. Funny, probably the shortest amount of time between reading a book and seeing the movie for me in a long time if ever, so the book was very fresh in my mind.
Been running into things that my laptop cannot do - like video chat in Google. It's not really THAT old, but in technology land, well... 3 years is a long time I guess. Also wishing for things like a video camera, and an iPhone, but wondering, if I HAD a new laptop, or an iPhone, would the video capabilities in those things be enough for my purposes? And so again, what's the most efficient investment of financial resources?
Need to kind of sit down and figure it out really, because I have the feeling that I'd like to ask for one or two "big ticket" items for Christmas and just have people chip in for that, rather than get a bunch of little things I don't really want/need. If it was really big it could possibly even go over into Birthday as well... that's the advantage to a January birthday, not so close to Christmas that people automatically give combination presents, but close enough that if a combining is needed it works. heh.

crap.
Ok, so I missed last night and I'm totally gonna cheat and backdate this one and hopefully remember to write something else tonight.
It's probably because I was so bewildered by the plot (or lack thereof?) of the new Bond movie. G woke me up from a nap at like 6:35 to see if I wanted to go at 7:00, so basically he got home and we jumped in the car.
It was confusing because during each moment of the movie I was like "Oh cool [insert explosion, boat, scaffolding fight, Italian villa, car chase, etc, etc]!" But afterwards I was like "huh? wha happen?" and "Where's Q?!" Probably doesn't help that I don't really remember what happened in the previous one. But Daniel Craig is a good Bond. So I'll go see the next one. :)
I'm highly excited about the Rachel Ries/Anais Mitchell concert tonight. Been waiting a long time for them to come back. Hope they have a good turnout or it'll probably be hard to get Anais back again, now that's she's signed to Ani's label.

Progress
Well, I woke up breathing through my nose and I made it to my radio show and had a fun interview, but that was kind of pushing it, so I worked from home for the rest of the day.
I've gotten to that point where it's kind of boring to work so hard at getting better that I haven't been quite as good today. I guess on the one hand that's a sign that I AM a lot better, because I'm not suffering enough that I HAVE to do all these things in desperation. But also hopefully since I have been able to stay home and warm and not self consciously trying not to sniffle and cough in an office that will speed things up.
Watched a weird movie with G. He sure knows how to pick 'em. The Name of the Rose I think. Sean Connery as a Medieval Sherlock Homian monk trying to solve multiple deaths in a creepy monastary, and a baby Christian Slater as his young "Elementary Dear Watson!" apprentice, who totally gets seduced by a dirty, greasy peasant girl. And slaughtering of animals and disfigured and bizzar-o looking monks. Lots of ew moments. It's probably very well done and authentic and all that, and I'm sure it's right up some people's alley, but he totally owes me a girl movie now. ergh.
Hope I can sleep, because I need to!

I'm a Super Star!!
JUST KIDDING!!
I did get to participate as an extra in the new Boothby/Thomas move/web series thing for a couple hours on their second to last day of filming. It was fun. Here's a teaser trailer for it. (I'm not in it, but it looks exciting to me!)
This is a super new project, so as of this writing the website isn't even ready yet, but I just had to share.
If you want to see a completed Boothby project, check out his YouTube Channel. We Are Theo is his most recent big thing - 5 chapters.

Extra Extra!
I got to be an extra in a Boothby movie today. I don't know how many other people would consider it fun to give up 2.5-ish hours of their Sunday to wear funky tweedy jackets and get coal dust smudged on their face, and then walk around in circles in the basement and up and down the stairs of the Old Armory, in cold cold temperatures (It was colder inside than outside!), but I had a good time!
It was neat to see the basement and the upstairs corners of the Armory, and have them calling "Action" and "Cut" and marking down time codes and stuff. Just a small flavor of what it might be like to do it for a full thing. Whoa. A lot of work. But it will be really cool to see how it looks when it's all put together.
Professor K writes a mini explanation of the thing at the end of his blog post here. (He was also taking production photos, so I'm curious to see how those turn out. I have a feeling I'll be in more of the photos than the movie, heh.) I honestly don't know that much about it, since we were really coming in for make-up type shots that they'd missed previously, most people already knew what was going on, and we really weren't required to show any sort of emotion that would require us knowing what was going on. It was stuff like, "You've just been working in the boiler rooms and you hear the break whistle and you just want to go get food, or go home" or something like that. And either "walk faster" or "walk slower". heh.
Anyhoo, I've always wanted to be in one of the movies that these local guys have done, so there was a little wish come true. Yeah, I had a good time. :-)

Now I'm Probably Going to Hear This All the Time...
In my web meanderings I discovered there is a certain scream that sound editors have been using since the 50's. Kind of a signature/inside joke thing. Watch this and you'll probably have the same, "oh yeah, I HAVE heard that" ah ha that I did...

If Only Everyone Thought This Way
Last weekend I watched "To Kill a Mockingbird" for the first time. One of those stories I always heard about as being required reading in High Schools or Colleges, but apparently not mine. Pretty amazing. Made me feel like I had not ENTIRELY wasted my day on the couch. (I WAS really tired, and I did go out for a little at night).
Anyhoo, I also watched the special features. (That's what I love about Netflix, being able to keep the movie for long enough to watch them!) One of them was Gregory Peck's acceptance speech when he won a lifetime achievement award from the American Film Institute (AFI).
He had this inspiring quote about the kind of entertainment that should be made: “Entertainment that, in the words of T.S. Elliot, enlarges the sympathies, stimulates the mind and the spirit, that warms the heart, punctures the balloons of hypocrisy, greed and sham, tickles the funny bone and leave us with a glow that comes when we have been well entertained.
Making millions is not the whole ballgame, fellas. Pride of workmanship is worth more, artistry is worth more. The human imagination is a priceless resource. The public is ready for the best that you can give them. It just may be that you can make a buck and at the same time encourage, foster and commission work of quality and originality!” (Found it here Thanks!)
