Fistful of Stars

Blue light
Flicker on the window
Plug in and disconnect
Widescreen double feature
Can’t drown out the white noise of the brain

Run away from the day
On silver strands of false connectivity
Lonely hearts laid out on the line
Begging for strips of recognition and reassurance

So afraid of missing the most important moment
Neglecting to notice the everyday magic
But there are rainbows in a glass of water
Birds today have trilled a strange sweet mating call
And a small child with pink shoes stands before you,
offering tiny, infinite fistfuls of sparkling stars
