SATURDAY AFTERNOON
1:01 pm - Attempt to post entry on MySpace as well, to further the procrastination... MySpace will not cooperate, although I try several times.
1:30? - Gilberto shows up, with NOT salad, as there wasn't any to be had. I proceed to melt down into tears from heat, hunger, exhaustion and dissapointment. We turn on the AC. He goes back to work at MUM.
2:00 My mom calls, we share our freak out woes
3:00 G comes home and accuses me of not doing anything. I freak out. Since I have clearly cleaned of most of the desk... and spent a bunch of time online...
Sometime after 3? We load up both the cars and drive over to the house, unload. Have an argument about where the bed should go in the guest room. My argument is on the side of feng shui, his is on preference and saying he doesn't notice or care that having the bed right in front of the door blocks the engery flow, and it's going to be HIS room, so he can have it how he wants. I point out that this is going to be the guest room as well, and we want the guests to have the a nice experience there. After realizing there will be slightly more privacy for both rooms if the beds are not against the shared wall, and that anyone can still sleep with their head in the East by moving their pillows to the foot end at night, he gives in.
6:30? - We go home, shower, get dressed for Beth's Birthday party, load a few more things in both cars.
7:30? - Drive back to the house, unload, trade Jeffrey my car for his big truck, go to Beth's party.
9:45? - Stop by the house to pick up a Star Trek DVD we'd already packed. come home and I watch 1 1/2 episodes before dozing off. G packs as he's seen them both already.
12:00? - Crash into bed.
TODAY
6:30a - wake up around the usual time for work, very anxious and exhausted.
7:00a - can't stay in bed any longer, go online to check email and blogs
9:00a - have checked all the blogs and followed a few random links, gotten sufficiently tired to go back to bed for a bit.
9:37a - get up, get dressed, go out for coffee. Promise that I am getting it to go, and just coffee.
10:00a? - Go up to the studio in the Broadway Building and make a stack of 5 boxes I've been saving for this occasion - for the salad spinner, the fountain, dj console, DVD player and waffle iron. Carry them in one hand, coffee in the other. Make it all the way to the car successfully, although I noticed one guy start to move in my direction to open the door, I was already out of it. Feel like a genius, wonder how I would have done waitressing...
10:15a Come home and wonder why the heck I didn't get iced coffee. just cuz it's cloudy doesn't mean it's not muggy as hell... Smash the bag with blog of ice on the steps to break it up into coffee cup sized chunks.
10:30a make 4 pieces of sprouted rye toast for our breakfast. Pack various things, clothes, dresser, papazan chair, plants, into the big truck. I have the brilliant idea to roll out our dining room rug into the truck bed to protect the furniture, and it fits pretty well!
11:00a - sit down to try and upload this blog to MySpace. Stupid MySpace has been cranky. my trial run seems to work, so i decide to update before posting. the coffee seems to be helping, as I am feeling rather silly. Although still worried about rain now...
11:30a - We take our load of stuff over to the house, the boys help unload. I take a a quick last swipe at the baseboards in the bedroom, since the paint brush I wrapped up is still wet and loaded with paint.
12:00p? - We get home and I give G back his set of keys, since it seems foolish to have both sets on my keyring. Gilberto goes to Annapurna to eat lunch, bring salad (fingers crossed) and try to find friends to help move (fingers double crossed). With the appealing thought that there might be someone coming to help, I start quickly prioritizing packing/shifting stuff off of the heavy items so they are ready to move. Also move anything that is obviously ready to go onto the porch and manage to completely empty and slide the pantry shelf on to the porch.
1:27p - Start to wonder where the heck G is. Continue packing.
1:41p - G calls to say he is bringing salad.
2:00p? - G shows up, congratulates me on my progress and tells me to sit and eat while he takes down the TV, VCR, DVD player, amp & speakers. We move the pantry shelf into the truck and decide to try taking the dining table out without taking it apart. Flip it on it's side and realize that the screws will be really easy to take out, and therefore really easy to take off the legs, and therefore much easier to move the thing around.
2:45p? - Rama Hall, G's soccer teammate and our savior, shows up to help with the heavy lifting. I mention that I used to babysit him when I was in 6th grade, and his mom paid me like a $1 per program. Maybe it was $2... Anyway! They manage to get the mattress and bedframe in upsidedown on the flat table and head off to unload. I get the remaining dresser drawers and various random stuff in the car. Unscrew the mirror from my dresser. Start moving more stuff out to the porch. Fit a few more pillows and such into the car. Walk out on to the porch, lock the door and realize I don't have my keys. Get the secret spares and let myself back in. Still can't find the keys. Go look in the car. Call G. He says they are almost done and coming back and I can use his. I am relieved that I gave his set back to him.
3:05p - Find keys. They are hooked on to the digital camera under a blanket. Of course! Where I always keep my keys!
3:07p - Get in the car, call G to tell him I found the keys. He says they are almost back to the house. I notice a somewhat sketchy character riding by on a bike. He rides up a block and then turns around to come back. Not that he would have gotten very far on his bike with a heavy box of books, but I wait in the car till G pulls up, ask him if the boys are home. He says yes, but that they hadn't helped them unload. I hope they will have pity on a sister.
3:15p? - It is starting to sprinkle very lightly. Think "shit, shit, shit." Get home and yell out to see if anyone is home and available to help. Tommy is, but Collin has gone off to help set up streaming radio for the new station.
3:45p? - The guys come back with another load and we all bring it inside. Tommy agrees to come help us move the big entertainment center and the sofa.
4:00? - Collin pulls up on his bike about the same time we get there in the truck. Tommy and I re-arrange stuff in the living and dining room to make room for the sofa and a path for the entertainment center. We get it up to the porch and decide we all need an real break, move some other stuff from the car, take the rug out of the truck bed. Get the entertainment center into the room where Collin is sleeping
4:15p? - G takes Rama back in the truck. Collin and I unload the last few things from the car, notice the results of the foundation sinking in the kitchen and discuss the programs the new radio station is trying to get set up, and pizza options.
4:30p - Drive home with an sweaty, aching body but a huge relief - the big stuff is done! G says he gave Rama $25 - a little more than the $10/hr we said we'd pay, and I think we all felt good about that all the way around. We realize we have nothing left to sit on except my exercise ball. I give it to G because he wants to lean on something - we both check email, blog, etc.
5:24p - Time to take G to watch a soccer game and go buy special olives for Collin, and cleaning supplies. Diana is going to help us clean tomorrow and the next day. We still have the whole studio (well minus the 5 boxes I brought over this morning) to clear out. I'm hoping I can get a hold of someone with an elevator key, because I bet it will all fit in one elevator trip, two max...
