Up way too late. Stayed late at a friend's to watch a movie, got home to a confirmation that my interviewee IS calling in. Which is good, but I had slacked on writing the blog because I hadn't heard from her. So up late futzing around until I was able to get myself to do the blog. Sometimes are harder than others, probably a lot tonight because I was already freakin' tired before starting. Argh. But they are done! Phew.
Made one batch of cookies. Prepped two other types so for one all I have to do is drop on the sheets and bake, the other needs some mixing up, but everything is measured out. I have 2/3 of the ingredients prepped for little cranberry tarts too I think... I need to go back to Everybody's for a few other things anyway.

ergh.
1. We're getting a Prius within the next couple of days if all goes according to plan.
2. G bribed me with pizza to iron his shirts and pants for his trip to Dubai. He knows me well.
3. I have an interview at 9am with Ellis and Terri on kruufm.com.
4. Spending time prepping/dealing with 1-3 meant less time online tonight, means you're getting this list of 4 things for a NaBloPoMo entry.
So there. :D

Little Update
Excerpt from letter to the girls
Aside from today (rainy) the weather has been absolutely perfect lately. I keep doing my best to just soak it up and enjoy while it lasts.
Our bathroom floor is finally(!!!) repaired but I have yet to clean up the dried grout powder stuff completely, and the dining room ceiling still has a big gaping hole. meh. We're having a house concert here (for Brooke Brown Saracino) at the end of the month though so that gives a nice deadline for me to clean and my mom to get things fixed, although the plastering of the ceiling might be hard because not many people in town do it and the guy she found who does is pretty booked up. If it's not done in time though we can have the concert at my mom and Jeffrey's, so it's nice to have a back up plan.
I started an online music theory class through Berklee School of Music (Boston). I've only done one week so far which is learning the notes and beats, which I already knew, but looking ahead I can see there is a lot more to learn that I don't know, or don't know well at least, so I'm hoping it will fill in some gaps in my theory knowledge. Plus I'm taking it for credit so if I decide after this that I want to keep going I put it towards a songwriting certificate or something like that. One of the big things I got out of my songwriting camp was that there ARE certain concrete things you can do to write better songs, and knowing that somehow gave me the drive to go out and learn as much as I can about it.
I've also been doing an exchange with a local songwriter - Sharon Bousquet, where I do some internet/computer work for her in exchange for guitar or songwriting coaching and it's been pretty great so far, it's only once a week but the stuff I've learned has really opened things up for me and now I just need to get better at practicing - it's like lifting weights, all the knowledge in the world won't build the muscles!
Work at 3mix.com is good but I think it will get a lot better once there is a live site with users in it up and running. Right now I'm mostly just testing things for bugs, and writing a little bit. I'm supposed to write an article for the Source about the company but I'm having the darndest freakin' time doing it. Not sure what's wrong and it's very, very frustrating!
Radio show has been going pretty awesome, interviewing a lot of cool musicians and getting more confident talking on the phone: http://kruufm.com/blog/heather
If all goes well we will be getting a scooter tomorrow morning. It seems like a good way to use the both less of the car and gas. One of the ideas at one point was to sell my car, which will likely still happen in the near future, but it's so scary to think of not having a car, especially for the winter. It also makes me really pissed because I feel like I should be able to NOT need a car and figure out how to live without one. There are plenty of people who seem to manage without, my brother being an example in this very house!! He rides his bike or walks in almost all weather, he has a trailer that he can carry groceries and his entire Farmer's Market set up in, and in the winter there's a bus for special needs people that he can take to work. It's the winter that scares me the most. It's not like we won't have ANY car, Gilberto would keep his, and I also know plenty of one car families. And I could really use the money from selling my car to help pay for the scooter or my music class. ARGH! Anyway, I guess we'll see how it goes with the scooter for a little bit before making that decision...

Did You Try Turning It Off and On Again?
I helped a friend of my mom's get set up on GarageBand today. She wants to record a talk she's giving tomorrow and just got a bunch of equipment that she didn't know how to use. Since I (still!) have a cold and I'm trying to stay inside, we tried setting things up over the phone, me looking at my screen and she looking at hers. We got it to work just fine using the built-in mic, but once she hooked up her pre-amp and nice mic, something wasn't quite working. We tried a bunch of stuff and I finally had to say "I think we've reached the limit of how far I can go without seeing it in front of me. I think it might be something fairly simple, but without actually seeing it I just don't know." We decided that she'd bring her laptop and gear over to me and I'd check it out.
Sure enough, there was one little thing that I wasn't seeing that made all the difference. Turns out when I asked if the phantom power to the mic was on, she thought I was referring to a whole other little device that was for providing phantom power when you have the mic hooked up to a tape recorder. I tried just plugging the mic straight into the USB pre-amp and everything worked from there! Whew!
James Moore called me from KRUU last night. He was really nice and encouraging, saying how much he liked the pilot we submitted. We talked for a bit trying to decide if it's worth it to start a show that I would only be here for a month before going away for two months. It seems like while that's not the ideal, the options are also pretty open and he was willing to explore ideas, but he was pretty burnt out from a big week and a long day, and my head was pretty stuffy. He told me to think about it and get back to him Sunday or Monday. It'll also depend on B and how she feels about holding the reins by herself while I'm gone, although with the power of the interwebs, I'm thinking I could still actively participate pretty well from afar, especially since I HAVE my own recording equipment... It does sound like now that they've got so many quality shows, they are getting to the point where they can (and have to be) a little more choosy about what goes on. He said he was thinking of us for a 9 am slot though, which is pretty cool - not something at like 3am when not many people would probably be tuned in...
I got a little mini travel guitar for Christmas - group gift from the fam. I told G I really wanted it and would rather have that than lots of little things I don't need. I've been wanting a travel guitar for years because it's so stressful trying to take my actual guitar on the plane. It's a small sized guitar, and it really DOES fit in most overhead compartments if the plane is more than 3 seats across, but it just depends on the flight staff of the plane. Sometimes they'd actually store it for me in their coat compartment, other times they'd make me put it under the plane. This little Washburn Rover has a really great case that I wouldn't be afraid to send it under the plane if they made me do it for a little commuter flight or something. The other awesome thing about it is the neck on it is regular sized, so switching back to my big guitar is no problem. I'll be glad to have it in Colombia!

Tea and Puppies (and Funk on the local radio station)
I had some of my yummy tea from San Clemente today. It's called Kismet and it's an "Infusion of Fine Black Teas, Finest Green Oolong, Chamomile, Coconut, and Lavender."
Freakin' yum!
I really wanted to buy a looseleaf teapot last night during the ArtWalk, but the only Beehive one they had at the At Home store was white, which is totally boring (though practical, hrm.) And the bodum ones at Rev's kinda scare me - in that they might break too easily. Also it seems like the thin glass wouldn't keep the tea hot as long as ceramic. Although I DO like the idea of being able to see just how much tea is left... Sigh. Well, my mom's French press works just fine for the time being, and it's free to use that, so I'll keep pondering on teapots.
In the meantime I'm having fun wandering through the Lavender Lounge website and wishing we had a tea shop here in town:
Lavender Lounge Tea Company
Anyhoo, part of my urgency in finding a teapot is I'm looking forward to hosting a tea party sometime soon with the girls from work, now that I have both YUM tea and a big house. We went to L's house on Wednesday and it was totally fun! She lives in this sweet little farmhouse with funky vintage wallpaper and old black and white photos of her "great" relatives and their china and stuff. Pretty cool. And OMG she has the CUTEST Pomeranian puppy right now. She breeds them, and has 2 moms and a dad, and one puppy at the moment. He doesn't even look like a dog, and we spent the whole night trying to figure out exactly what he DID look like - a little bear, a little raccoon, a scrap of sheepskin with a wiggly tail... He's so fuzzy you can't see his feet from the top, so he may as well be on wheels with a little tail propeller. And I swear he sounds like a squeeky toy Sarah had, with kind of a creepy sqraaaauk to it. heh heh. tiny little bundle of love fuzz. And I think the cutest thing was Apple sproinging up excitedly to L's car as we pulled in. They love her so much, I don't see how she can ever leave them in the mornings!
It was funny, in the days leading up to the tea party, it somehow turned into this event called "Tea and Puppies", which is just fun to say, and also provided a fair amount of material for teasing and joking. heh. but I mean, come on - Tea and Puppies, there's just something so good about it!
Oh, and I've been having fun listening to the live KRUU FM feed on my computer. Yay for local radio! Right now is a Funk show hosted by Ed. It's neat to hear all these people I know on the radio, and get some variety into our on air music menu. Although I think they could seriously use some girl music on there. I've heard like 2 songs by women in the past 5 days. Not that I listen 24/7, but still... Having some little inklings of making a show myself?
ah hahaha! Ed is playing Flashlight right now, which is pretty much the song he used for us girls in high school to cut our teeth on Funk. Beautimous. I was like "Hey, I know this!"
