Blogging from the Front Porch

Ha ha! Tis a gorgeous day. I should be out for a walk or bike ride or some such, but still need to get my computer fix and hopefully catch a few of the ideas and observations that have been floating around in my head the past few days, so... Thanks to the beauty of wireless and TV tables, I have moved my little "workstation" outside!! *grin* sort of a ridiculous compromise, but it's working so far.

My idea for at least part of today was to have breakfast at home and then go to Cafe Paradiso for a drink, and maybe knit or blog from there. Got sucked into Star Trek Voyager, and as a result did not take a shower until 1:30 and got to the cafe about 5 minutes before they closed. Peter probably would have let us stay and hang out, there were still several people there eating, but we just stayed long enough to watch him make and omelet (I'm new to the world of eggs). I did order an iced latte, which I realized about 10 minutes later meant I wouldn't have anything to order at 2nd St if I wanted to go hang out there, not to mention it doesn't have quite the same atmosphere. So home and porch blogging it is!

G invited some guys over for a movie tonight, so I'm going to have to go clean up soon anyway. It's a good thing really. We were saying we ought to have parties once a week or so, as an excuse to clean up. I'm going to a concert, but G didn't really want to go, so when his friends called, it seemed like a good idea I guess. Blargh. Don't feel like cleaning, but want it clean, so yes, it's a good thing.

There's sort of a beautiful golden glow over the whole yard, all the trees on our side seem to have turned the same shade of yellow, and most of the leaves they dropped are still holding the color, so from the sky to the ground it's all yellow and pretty. I've been noticing that certain fall leaves have a similar translucency to spring ones, a sort of vibrating glow of transition perhaps? Also having visions of a chivalrous tree shrugging off his coat and laying it down over a puddle of grass for me to walk on. A new image that I was rather tickled with, I've always thought of it as a girl shedding a gown till then. A couple of squirrels are chasing each other around, clucking and rustling through the leaves. A lady and her dog are coming over to investigate.

I'm hoping to bring my geraniums inside, see if they'll survive the winter. We have a nice southern window for them. Mom says they might get leggy, but they'll be bigger next year when I put them out again.

There's a house for sale across the street. It's divided into at least a couple apartments. It has red doors and shutters, and it had a tree full of red leaves to match, although the leaves are pretty much gone by now. The door that faces our place seems to keep blowing open, and it's open again right now. I called the realtor once and they said they'd come take care of it, but it keeps happening. I walked in the other day, just to peek. Pretty much a dump honestly, could use a lot of work. But there was something just a tiny bit thrilling about exploring where I wasn't invited.

(Just paused for a spellcheck. I don't always check, but sometimes on certain days, certain words kinda scream out at me to be corrected. I can't believe the blogger spell check doesn't recognize the word "blogging". I find that really hilarious!)

I've been thinking about the sorts of games people come up with online that they then share in their blogs or emails - like take out and inventory everything in your bag or whatnot. At first I thought they were totally silly, and I still do a little, but I'm also starting to think its a rather lighthearted, fun way to connect. I've always admired the people who come up with games or questions like that. Just for knowing, no real purpose or motive. Like a while back, I think it was Alison and Sarah were asking something along the lines of, which is more useful, or if you had to give up one, which would it be, art or math? One sort of list game I've been wanting to play for a while is like they do in Amelie, where they list what the characters like and dislike. So if it was me, hrm...

She dislikes:

-When the shower curtain billows in and sticks to her legs.
-When people make absolute judgements about art, music or the artists who produced them.
-Staying inside for an entire day
-Body hair other than on the top of her head
-The end of daylight savings time, which means going to and coming from work in the dark
-Filing bills and important papers
-Searching for bills and important papers
-Being cold
-Getting twisted up in the bedsheets
-Politics

She likes:
-Blogging from unusal places
-Stopping to admire the colors of nature
-Capturing romantic, poetic thoughts in writing and/or song
-Seeing the first robin of the year
-Tweezers
-Seeing the sun through stained glass windows and casting rainbows off her wedding ring
-Warm blankets, a pile of them
-Trying new recipies
-Being complimented on her creative endevours
-Speaking in British and Irish accents
-Blended iced coffee drinks and flavored lattes with soy or whole milk.
-Using ellipses and exclaimation points...!

Well, I've almost used up my batteries, and I ought to get cleaning... but I feel all romantic and creative, so that's a good place to do it from. *grin*
